Honor Our Military

By Joanna Fuchs

Let’s honor our military,

The men and women who serve,

Whose dedication to our country

Does not falter, halt or swerve.

Let’s respect them for their courage;

They’re ready to do what’s right

To keep America safe,

So we can sleep better at night.

Let’s support and defend our soldiers,

Whose hardships are brutal and cruel,

Whose discipline we can’t imagine,

Who follow each order and rule.

Here’s to those who choose to be warriors

And their helpers good and true;

They’re fighting for American values;

They’re fighting for me and you.

A Letter from Home

By Billy Little

I come back in from patrol

I throw my webbing on the floor

I put my weapon in my locker

My body is aching, tired and sore

Lying on my bed, thinking of you

The tears are filling in my eyes

Upon my bedside table

A letter from you, what a nice surprise

I open the letter, I smell your scent

I read it for the umpteenth time

I still can`t believe it’s over

You no longer want to be mine

I`m thousands of miles away

I need to hold you near

You`re having another man’s child

I read it again and wipe away a tear

It had been so long, since your last letter

And now I know the reason why

I will love you always and forever

Within my heart and my soul, goodbye

They knocked on her door to break the news

That her husband had taken his own life

She knew he could not live without her

Knowing she no longer wanted to be his wife

A Military Girlfriends Prayer

Anonymous

Give me the greatness of heart to see,

The difference between duty and his love for me.

Give me the understanding so that I may know.

When duty calls him, he must go.

Give me a task to do each day,

To fill the time when he’s away.

When he’s in a foreign land,

Keep him safe in your loving hand.

And Lord, when duty is in the field,

Please protect him and be his shield.

And Lord, when deployment is so long,

Please stay with me and keep me strong.

The U.S. Navy celebrates Armed Forces Day around the world by recognizing the men and women in the service of the United States Military.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of May and it has become customary for the Navy to declare the entire month of May as Military Appreciation Month.

Many messages of support are put forth during the month from all levels of the Navy leadership and the Navy’s Fleet and Family Support Centers and Morale, Welfare and Recreation organizations go all out to offer special events, attractions, entertainment, discounts from local merchants and sailor-friendly items of interest.

Navy sailors often spend large chunks of time overseas or deployed at sea and during those times when they may be deployed the Navy also works with organizations like the USO to provide services and comfort while they are away from their families.

Armed Forces Day may be officially celebrated in May but it has been the policy to appreciate the work our service members perform all year long.
