This Veterans Day will be a great time you can really use to honor your husband who has served in the Armed Forces during times of war.

As a veteran, your husband is the brave man who left his comfortable live to join the forces that fight off wars in faraway and foreign lands. He is the one who risk losing their lives, his sanity, his identities and his free spirits in order to fight his beloved countries in wars that threaten its safety, security and freedom. So your husband must be your hero in your heart. How can you show your pride and appreciation to him?

Honor Your Heroes, Discover His Stories this Veteran’s Day

Discover the stories of your husband will be meaningful. The same sources who can tell you how to contact your husband’s Army or Navy buddies will likely have access to his military mementos-medals, discharge papers, maybe even an old uniform. The vet being honored may even have forgotten that he’s kept these things. So discover and displaying them carefully on a shelf or table should evoke some warm memories.

“Thank You” Your Veteran

Big Veterans Day parades and street parties usually take place and war heroes are paraded in their special floats. Fly a flag, visit a cemetery, visit a war memorial or attend a parade is perfect way to celebrate the special day with your husband.

Soldiers, more than most, live by their words. They swore to do whatever it takes to protect America, to never leave their fellow soldiers behind, to never retreat and to always honor the fallen. For many soldiers the simplest thank you is a “Thank you” and the understanding that they never stop fighting, so you should never stop being thankful.

Remember Your Veteran with Personalized Military Gifts

As most veterans, your husband may say you can honor him by remembering, spending time during Veterans Day with his or going to one of the many memorials around the country. But choose personalized veterans gift is also wonderful.

It is a big surprise to your husband if you present him with a crystal plaque engraved with his name, rank, dates of service, his military branch and division as well as their insignia and crest at the party to celebrate his retirement.

Clock and watches are also traditional military veteran gift that can be personalized as you like. The back of the watch can be engraved with your husband’s name and service dates as well as a meaningful message or an appreciation phrase to him.

When people ask you Why Should We Honor Veterans, you should say that they deserve all the accolades and gratitude coming them – perhaps even more – because nothing compares to what they have gone through to defend the honor of their country.

Armed Forces Day

Before President Harry S. Truman proclaimed the third Saturday in May as Armed Forces Day in 1949, the three major branches of the United States armed forces—the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force—held elaborate celebrations on three different days during the year.

Although the service units continue to celebrate their own days on April 6 (Army), October 27 (Navy), the second Saturday in September (Air Force), and November 10 (Marine Corps), the purpose of Armed Forces Day is to promote the unification of the branches under the Department of Defense (which took place in 1947) and to pay tribute to those serving in all the armed forces.

Therefore the Armed Forces Day becomes the good opportunity for us to show our appreciation and support for them. This is the day on which we have the welcome opportunity to pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces.

But you may wonder how to celebrate the Armed Forces Day. What kinds of military gifts or military awards can help us express our sincere emotion? Or what should we do for military family, spouse, friends etc.

Show our support for our fighting troops and their families by hosting a party, attending an event, flying the flag, offering a message or a salute for the 2011 Armed Forces Day.

The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated by

  1. Parades – While commemorations of the individual service units are usually confined to military bases, the celebration of Armed Forces Day entails much broader participation. In addition to the huge parade held on this day each year in New York City.
  2. Open House – The armed forces often hold “open house” to acquaint the public with their facilities and to demonstrate some of the latest technological advances. Sometimes the National College will host an open house for our service members. The event is targeted to active and reserve military members, veterans and their spouse and dependents, though the public at large is welcome to attend.
  3. Receptions – The reception have been hosted by different voluntary organizations at great garden, such as the famous Gilmore’s Garden. It has been attracted a large throng of people. Military officers had generally observed the request stated in the invitations to appear in full dress uniform, and the effect of so many brilliant costumes was highly picturesque, harmonizing, as they did, with the rustle decorations of the hall.
  4. Air Shows – You know the famous Canadian International Air Show that is held each year in Toronto over Canadian Labor Day Weekend. From warbirds to wingwalkers, fly-ins to fly-bys, Ontario boasts a full schedule of air shows, aviation expos, and aircraft presentations throughout the May. This is also symbol of a nation’s power.

These knives were delivered in October 1891. Since its launch in 1891 the Swiss military knife has been revised several times.
